Mass Student Demonstrations To Sign, Mail Draft Cards September 11th, 2001
WASHINGTON -- Huge student demonstrations have gathered by the reflecting pool in Washington to express their fury over the recent conflict. In single acts of defiance, students are lifting up their draft cards, signing them, and mailing them to the Department of Defense office for recognition of availability of service.
"With mail service only available within 600 miles," said one student leader, referrring to the effect of the FAA ban on air transport, "This is the only way to get your draft status made available as soon as possible. We have people here from as far away as Vermont and Chicago."
