Omar: "All Good Things Must Come To An End" November 14th, 2001
KANDAHAR -- Mullah Mohammed Omar gave heartfelt farewell comments today in a speech that may mark his last as the supreme leader of the Taliban government. As the Taliban's reign of power in Afghanistan shrank to scattered patches of disputed control, most expect the regime to completely collapse in mere days.
"Our time together was a Spring of life, and now as Autumn leaves fall a bittersweet goodbye is all that remains," said Omar. He said he was sorry to go, but urged all to think of endings only as new beginnings.
He continued, "In the words of Robert Frost, 'Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both / I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.'"
