NEW YORK CITY -- Even though it is more than 48 hours after the traditional christmas morning when presents are opened, millions of world citizens, hoping Santa Claus would leave the only gift they really wanted, kept searching in vain for the peace and prosperity they might have missed.
    "I thought it could still be here somewhere," said Gerard Taylor, 36, Toronto, "They were the only two things on my list."
    There seems to be little hope, with a nearly successful bombing on a plane, war escalating in Israel, no sign of Osama bin Laden and with India and Pakistan on the brink of a terrifying, potentially nuclear conflict.
    "Instead all I got was this stupid digital camera," said Taylor.
