Rumsfeld Denounces Pictures Taken of Prisoner Torment May 5th, 2004
WASHINGTON, DC -- "How could this have happened?" Donald Rumsfeld asked at a press conference. "It was really graphic stuff," he said. "Perfect for the media to grab and run with." The fallout of the release of ghoulish Abu Graib prison photos on 60 Minutes II continued this week as White House and military officials condemned the situation.
"I really don't want to believe that our soldiers could do something like this. Racist, inhuman, and breaking the most basic rules of public relations," the Secretary of Defense continued. "Why would they do it, and then take pictures of it? Where anyone could just put them on TV? It boggles the mind."
