Rumsfeld May Fire Bush -- Sources May 6th, 2004
WASHINGTON, DC -- Donald Rumsfeld, under pressure for the explosive Abu Ghraib scandal, may be forced to fire President George W. Bush, insider sources said under condition of anonymity. The revelation showed a unusual rift in the White House inner circle, between the President and his superiors.
"What happened in that prison was just totally unconscionable," Rumsfeld was said to have said privately. "The President should not have allowed me to allow that to happen."
"On the surface it appears that this is just about Abu Ghraib," said a senior administration official. "But the President has been unable to confront Rumsfeld on anything, and that's why Rumsfeld is considering firing him."
