Figurehead Assassinated

BAGDAD -- Powerless Iraqi president Izzadine Saleem was killed in suicide bombing today, sending Iraq into throes of symbolic grieving.
"I am virtually upset by this impressionistic tragedy," said Iraqi journalist Haresh al-Kamal. "In a certain unidentifiable sense he was our leader, and in the same sort of way now he's not."
"This gives the occupation a severe metaphorical problem," said US Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt. "The imaginary shift in non-power will have tough subjective consequences for Iraq."
