US to Hold Auditions for New War Rationale May 21st, 2004
WASHINGTON, DC -- "There has got to be a reason why we're doing this. There were no WMDs, there are no credible plans for democracy, and human rights were the only thing we had going," said Undersecretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz in Congressional testimony released this week. "We're opening it up to the people to find a reason why we did this."
The Defense Department says interested parties will be able place bids on the rationale starting next month, sources said.
"An auction process isn't at all unusual for a situation such as this," said political science professor John Rames. "In the past, we've had no issues about frankly stating naked base desires. Now we need rationalizations to provide a self-satisfying cover story. And people have always been willing to pay for that."
