Visionary Says Web Phones Of Tomorrow May Include "Voice" Technologies

SAN FRANSISCO, CA -- Bay area based futurist Mark Newburg said people using tomorrow's web phones will be able to use the phones to "speak" to each other, much like instant messages except using their own voices instead of text.
He said this "voice" communication could be installed using "wired" technology, using pieces of copper stretched very long and thin to carry electronic signals taking the place of the radio waves needed for cellular communication devices.
"The science behind 'wired' technology has been around for a long time," said Newburg. "It has simply yet to be implemented."
Carla Dionys, an executive at Oracle systems said she was more skeptical. "The idea sounds nice, but it will be a long way off before we see 'wired' technology in peoples' homes, much less seeing people actively 'speak' to one and other on a daily basis."
