Democrats Intercept Senate Early In 1st Quarter

CAPITOL HILL -- Now-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) pushed back Republicans across the field early in the game with the finalization of Senator James Jeffords' (I-VT) sudden defection from GOP territory.
The play came as a shock to the crowd as Daschle plucked Jeffords out of the air after he was inexplicably punted hard by Republicans. The then-minority leader carried Jeffords all the way to the end of the field, scoring a touchdown for the otherwise seemingly doomed Democratic team.
It remains a mystery who made the tragically timed kick, whether Senate leader Trent Lott (R-MS) or President George W. Bush. GOP coaches Ari Fleischer and Karl Rove were reportedly furious at the foul-up reportedly throwing a shouting match in the Republican locker room.
Elsewhere on the field Daschle's victory dance in the end zone was a big crowd pleaser, jumping in the air, throwing Jeffords to the ground and jubilantly waving his buttocks at fans and opponents alike. His cry could be heard from the stands, "Thank you Jeeesuuuuuus!!"
