New Orleans Destroyed Record Twice in One Year

BATON ROUGE -- The historic city of New Orleans was destroyed last week by Hurricane Rita, after it had already been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina only weeks earlier, a feat that officials are calling a "record".
"New orleans has never been destroyed more than once in a year. This really is one for the history books," said Mayor Ray Nagin.
Historically large cities in flood-prone areas have been destroyed before, but more than once in the same year is a rarity.
